Samantha is a devoted Christian and licensed marriage and family therapist. With a vision to provide skilled professional and Biblical counseling to the community, Through the Sea Marriage and Family Counseling Inc. was founded. Samantha specializes in counseling couples through issues related to communication difficulties, ministry life, infidelity recovery, and abuse. She also cares for individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship distress.

Ian Kelly, LMFT#105802, Supervisor

Ian is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.  As a trained Biblical counselor, he enjoys bringing God's word and the hope of the Gospel into his treatment with clients who request it.  Ian specializes in treating depression and anxiety with adults and those in late adolescence.  He has facilitated and developed curriculum for depression and anxiety recovery programs using empirically validated approaches in the intensive outpatient (IOP) setting.  Ian also has experience in working with couples, mood disorders and eating disorders.

Valerie Monroe, LMFT#96061, Supervisor

Valerie is Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Her gentle and kind presence helps people feel comfortable discussing issues related to depression, anxiety, PTSD, and adjustment related disorders. Valerie has worked with couples, individuals, and families. She is trained in EMDR and has helped clients process various types of trauma.

Shannon Lacabanne, LMFT#116185

Shannon is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She specializes in working with individual adult women and teens. She is particularly skilled with counseling related to anxiety and self-confidence. Shannon is also trained in EMDR therapy, which can help with issues ranging from post-traumatic experiences to relational problems. Shannon also enjoys supporting families in developing healthy and effective parenting skills, for couples and those who co-parent/have custody agreements.

Gina Espinoza, LMFT#120896

Gina is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is trained in EMDR and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She enjoys providing therapy to adolescents, adults, couples, and families. She has experience in working with adolescents in residential treatment settings and has managed multiple programs which served adult victims of domestic violence and older adult populations. Additionally, Gina has experience in working with eating disorders in the partial hospitalization (PHP) and intensive outpatient (IOP) settings. She has a passion for working with victims of trauma and issues of attachment.

Mayte Salazar, LMFT#116012

Mayte is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She provides treatment in English and Spanish. Her primary specialization is with children and families, and individual adults. She is a Certified EMDR therapist, and also works well with clients who want brief, solution-focused counseling. Mayte enjoys helping clients understand themselves and make personal changes, and develop the skills they need to manage, heal and grow their relationships.

Bryan Chan, LMFT#122240

Bryan is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist who is passionate about helping people discover and achieve greater levels of peace, hope, freedom and joy. He creates a safe and nurturing environment for others to share their thoughts, feelings, and experiences so they can be seen, known and accepted. Bryan has a background working with at-risk youth who struggle with substance abuse, trauma, and severe mental illness in intensive services (Full Service Partnership). He strives to help people fully understand who they are and support them in the hardships of life. Bryan is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), in addition to a M.A. in Counseling Ministry. He enjoys working with individual teens, young adults, couples, and families.

Akiah Selwa, LMFT244535

Akiah Robinson Selwa is a licensed Marriage Family Therapist.  Akiah has over 15 years of experience as a therapist working with families, couples, individuals, children, members of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color) population, adoption constellation, and foster youth.  Akiah approaches treatment with an attitude of empowerment and acceptance; and from a Biblically-based, attachment-focused, strategic, trauma-informed, and adoptions competent framework. Akiah is specialized in  Mind-Body-Spirit integration, Attachment-Focused, Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused, Brief Strategic Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and lots of hope.

Jordan is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist. He is passionate about working with couples; helping them develop better communication dynamics and conflict resolution skills. He is also confident to help couples recover and heal through infidelity issues. He enjoys working with men and women in individual counseling, especially with anxiety symptoms and relational distress. He has experience working with adolescents in a school setting, and parents often find he is a great fit to help their teens through such an emotionally difficult season of their lives.

Sabrina is a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, under the direct supervision of Valerie Monroe, LMFT. She has worked with children, teens, adults, couples, and has facilitated group therapy. She uses a combination of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy but also collaborates with the client on modalities that would assist the individual in meeting their goals. She is trained in the Gottman Method Level 1 Couples Therapy. Sabrina strives to create a safe space to process through life's challenges, help clients improve relationships with others, provide positive coping skills, and build on self-worth.

Angela earned her first Master of Arts Degree from Azusa Pacific University with an emphasis in Research. While doing research on the grieving process, she fell in love with the idea of helping people. She decided to continue her education to obtain a second master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy.
Angela believes that therapy is a journey, where an individual can share his/her experiences in a safe environment.  Every person has a story to tell and Angela became a therapist to help people tell their story and find hope. She works within a Family Systems approach, as well as a Person-Centered approach. She has experience working with individuals, couples, children, and adolescents. She is Gottman Level 1 trained for couples therapy, has worked with people who have experienced trauma, addictions, grief, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem issues, and has also worked with special needs children and their families.

Hannah Morehead is a registered Associate Clinical Social Worker.  She is a committed follower of Christ and believes that the spiritual health of the individual is crucial to finding healing. She is passionate about supporting those who are struggling to create spaces where they can truly thrive and grow. She has worked with adults of all ages, as well as children and adolescents—addressing issues surrounding anxiety, parenting, interpersonal relationships, trauma, and domestic violence. She’s trained in solution-focused therapy, trauma informed care, and motivational interviewing.
